Martinsell Chair

Laminated Oak Chair

This chair extends the earlier corset study, exploring how structure can support the body without the use of upholstery. Thin plywood elements are cut, joined and tensioned to form a surface that shapes directly to the body.

The form draws in part on the contoured landscape of the Pewsey Downs near Martinsell. A triangulated three-part structure creates a rigid yet subtly responsive surface, supported by an internal framework that balances strength and lightness.

The chair can be developed as a limited series or realised as a custom piece, with variations in material.
