Laminated Sycamore Bench

This work continues an investigation into tailored furniture, where structure is used to shape and support the body without the need for upholstery. A faceted loop form is developed to support the back directly, drawing on the logic of corsetry.

The ends are laminated, while the seat is formed as a thin skin over an internal structure. Radial segments of ripple sycamore define the surface, emphasising the geometry of the form and the relationship between structure and material.

The Sofa Bench forms part of an ongoing investigation into structural seating and is currently being revisited through digital modelling and material refinement.
